Cooking Turkeys and Food

Although Tom the Turkey does not condone the cooking and eating of turkeys, he does know that many people do this during the holdiays, so here is some information on cooking turkeys.


  1. How long will it take my turkey to thaw?
  2. After you turkey is done, why should you let it stand for 15 minutes?

  1. How long will it take my turkey to thaw?

    According to Butterball corporation, they recommend that you thaw a wrapped turkey in the refrigerator for about one day per 4lbs.

    This allows the stuffing to cool to a temperature of 165F, a better serving temperature.

    To prevent it from burning.

    According to Butterball, they say the thigh.

    When they can bounce 4 inches.

  9. Cranberries can be harvested two ways: Wet and Dry. Is it true that the ones that are harvested wet are used to make cranberry juice?

    This is true. These are the ones also used to make the cranberry sauce you can buy in cans.

  10. How did they cook their turkey's back in 1627?

    There were two ways. One was to roast it using strings and skewers and spinning it vertically. The other was done by using a "tin kitchen" which was set inside the hearth and allowed the turkey to be cooked on a spit and turned. The tin kitchen was only for the more wealthy since it cost $3 back then, which was equivalent to a week's pay.

    It allowed you to catch the drippings in a pan and make gravy.
