The weekly news update featuring Release of Do they know it's Christmas?

Santa has asked all of the supervisors and team leaders of the workshops and warehouses to start checking over their inventory as he will begin checking his list twice on Monday morning. As you are aware, once this double check has been completed, the loading of the delivery satellites will begin in preparation for delivery night.
Edward Hinklemyer would like to thank everyone who assisted with the trip of Santa and Mrs. Claus to New York for the Macy's Day parade. Everything followed the schedule perfectly with no mishaps or negative reports coming into the department. He went on to mention that reports have started to come into the department from the scout elves and some of the reports have been surprising. He will start sending executive memos to Santa and the team over at the Naughty Nice list starting Monday morning.
The Division of WWW/PR has been able to bring the Legendary Figures Biographies, Mrs. Claus' Recipe Database, and Trivia Databases back on-line, thus completing the updates of the TAOLF.com website. They will now take a few days to go back over all of the code and double check it for security reasons in observance of computer security day on November 30th. Also there is a list of new pages to be added to the website shortly as well. Please keep your eye on the website for new content coming out soon.
Temperatures will be dipping down into the negative 30s this week; however, again we have no precipitation in the forecast for the week. Please look for the sun to be out off and on all throughout the week.

"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a charity song written in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise money for the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia.
Geldof was so moved by the plight of starving children in Ethiopia seen in a BBC report series that he decided to try to raise money using his contacts in pop music. He enlisted the help of Midge Ure to produce a charity record.
The song is made up of Geldof's lyrics, and Ure's created the melody and backing track, and vocals and instruments by popular performers.
Geldof called mainly the most popular British and Irish performers of the time, persuading them to donate their time. His one criterion for selection was how famous they were as he wanted to maximize the sales of the record. Geldof later revealed three people had turned him down, but refused to disclose who. Some who did participate though are none other than Robert "Kool" Bell (Kool & the Gang), Bono, Phil Collins (Genesis and solo artist), Boy George (Culture Club), George Michael (Wham!), Paul Young, multiple members of Bananarama, and Duran Duran just to name a few. There were also a few artists who could not attend due to their location at the time, but who wanted to participate and so they sent recorded messages like Paul McCartney and David Bowie.
The recording took place at SARM Studios in Notting Hill. The recording studio gave them no more than 24 free hours to record and mix the record. On 25 November 1984, the recording took place between 11 am and 7 pm.
The first tracks to be recorded were the group / choir choruses which were filmed by the international press. The footage was rushed to newsrooms where it aired while the recording process continued. Geldof had also arranged for the UK newspaper The Daily Mirror to have exclusive access inside the studio, and ensured that a 'team photo' was taken by the newspaper's photographer Brian Aris before any recording got under way, which was to appear in the following day's edition of the newspaper and help publicize the record. The photograph also appeared on the back cover of the single.
The recording was also filmed by director Nigel Dick to be released as a pop video.
The following morning, Geldof appeared on the Radio 1 breakfast show with Mike Read, to promote the record and promised that every penny would go to the cause. The British Government, however, refused to waive the VAT (Value Added Tax) on the sales of the single. Geldof publicly stood up to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and, sensing the strength of public feeling, the government backed down and donated the tax back to the charity.
The record was released on 3 December 1984, and went straight to No. 1 in the UK singles chart, outselling all the other records in the chart put together. It became the fastest-selling single of all time in the UK, selling a million copies in the first week alone. It went number 1 in 17 other countries as well. It sold over two million copies around the globe and raised more than $24 million (USD).
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" was rerecorded and rereleased again in 1989, 2004 and 2014.

The North Pole City Commerce Association is taking care of the programs for the Sports League again this year. If you wish to advertise the Tinsel Football Playoff game programs, please contact the North Pole City Commerce association offices and a representative will come out to your business to get your ad for the program. Proceeds from the sale of these ads will go towards replacing several tent canopies for the association that will be used for booths in this year's delivery celebration.
North Pole City Council is asking everyone to use public transportation if at all possible on Wednesday as most of the city streets will be closed to traffic as the delivery satellites will be taken out of storage over to the warehouses in preparation for loading. All public transportation systems including the underground Iron Reindeer are running to 100% efficiency and there should be no issues when moving around the city. All streets will be opened back up again on Thursday morning.
This week marks the final week of regular season games which will decide which teams will make this year's playoffs.

On December 1, enjoy a slice of your favorite pie on National Pie Day (which is also celebrated on Jan 23). Mrs. Claus' Kitchen will be hosting a pie pot luck. Everyone is encouraged to bring in your favorite pie to the workshop cafeteria on your way in for your shift. All will then be available in the cafeteria for your breaks.
Then on December 4 it is National Cookie Day. Mrs. Claus' Kitchen will be preparing all the North Pole cookie favorites all day in the cafeteria and in town square. Stop by for some piping hot cookies. And what would cookies be without cocoa? All the Cocoa Pubs will be serving hot cocoa in town square as well. Stop on by and try out as many cookies and cocoa as you can!
Don't forget that December 3 is the first Saturday of the month too, thus it’s National Play Outside Day. Be sure to head out to enjoy some outdoor fun.
We would like to wish Judy "Cocoa" Leighton a very happy 1500th birthday. She worked in Mrs. Claus' Kitchen for 920 years and was the personal cocoa concierge for the Claus' for a very long time. She has been enjoying her retirement over the last year, and we all love her hot cocoa and are glad she has passed her recipe on to her successor. We wish her a very happy birthday and many more to come.
