The weekly news update featuring President Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address

Santa's reindeer stables will be starting extra flight workouts for the team this week in preparation to their flight to New York for the Macy's Day parade next week. If you are not busy during your breaks and lunch you can step outside and cheer them on as they do their pass-overs and touch down take-offs all week long in city center. Santa is expected to join the team on Saturday morning as well to put them through their paces and maneuvers.
Edward Hinklemyer has announced that the Naughty-Nice list database is now back on-line and working correctly on the TAOLF.com website. You can now check your Naughty/Nice status once again to make sure you are on track for this season. Simply connect to the TAOLF.com website, click on Utilities, and then the Naughty-Nice List and you can check your status.
After a recent change to the the main webserver, the TAOLF.com team has been putting in some overtime to get the coding more compatible with a recent software update that was not working for most of the posts on the website. It only took a few minutes to find the problem, but the team has been working non-stop to get the changes made to get the site back up to 100% functionality. As of right now, it appears that everything is back up and working again.
Temperatures will be averaging from -25 to -30 this week with less than an inch of snow expected on Thursday. We expect mainly partly cloudy skies starting Saturday and it is expected to last through mid week.
Santa and City Council have lifted the communications blackout to the lower 48 and will now allow us to broadcast our news again to those all over the world. Those of you who have been following us know that our news broadcasts stopped on the week of August 18. This was due to security reasons due to all of the tampering and mischief that was taking place up here at the North Pole. We now will be sending out our broadcasts via a new Podcast that has been established that will allow elves all around the globe to subscribe to the podcast to get their news. Please look for the WELF-NPC News Radio podcast wherever you get your podcasts.
On November 19, 1863, at the dedication ceremony of the Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, President Abraham Lincoln delivered one of the most memorable speeches in American history. Charged by Pennsylvania’s governor, Andrew Curtin, to care for the Gettysburg dead, an attorney named David Wills bought 17 acres of pasture to turn into a cemetery for the more than 7,500 who fell in battle. Wills invited Edward Everett, one of the most famous orators of the day, to deliver a speech at the cemetery’s dedication. Almost as an afterthought, Wills also sent a letter to Lincoln—just two weeks before the ceremony—requesting “a few appropriate remarks†to consecrate the grounds. At the dedication, the crowd listened for two hours to Everett before Lincoln spoke. Lincoln’s address lasted just two or three minutes. The speech reflected his redefined belief that the Civil War was not just a fight to save the Union, but a struggle for freedom and equality for all. This was his stirring conclusion: “The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.†Reception of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was initially mixed, divided strictly along partisan lines. Lincoln himself was included in not being particular happy with his own speech. Nevertheless, the “little speech,†as he later called it, is thought by many today to be the most eloquent articulation of the democratic vision ever written.
For anyone wishing to be a part of the planning team for this years delivery night festivities, the North Pole City Commerce will be holding their monthly meeting at Mrs. Claus' kitchen and all ideas and volunteers are welcome to join. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. on Friday morning.
The North Pole City Council has put out their notices that they will not be meeting again until after the new year unless an emergency meeting is called. They want to wish everyone a very Happy holiday season and all of the members plan on attending the delivery celebration this year and hope to see you then.
Join the Gift Wrap and Decoration Division this Sunday at noon in the City Center Square and sign your name to the new paper chain they are making this year for the Santa's Village Christmas Tree. The group hopes to get everyone involved so that all of the elves are represented with the paper chain that is going to be used as garland and wrapped around the tree during the delivery celebration. Refreshments will also be available.
