Representatives from the Candy Cane Factory have sent over some new samples to Santa and Mrs. Claus for them to try out this weekend. Some of the workers feel that there should be new flavors manufactured at the North Pole that are being created down in the lower 48 in order to help keep up with the tastes of everyone. The only flavor that is manufactured at the North Pole is and has always been peppermint. Some of the new flavors they have sent over for testing is bacon, strawberry, blueberry, ketchup, kale, mushroom, sour cream and onion, and bubble gum. A decision by Mr. and Mrs. Claus is expected this week.
Do you think we should have more flavors? Which of the flavors being tested would you like to try? Do you have a different flavor in mind? Let us Know.
Edward Hinklemyer has reported that the division of history and research, as well as, the division of WWW/PR are extremely overwhelmed right now with working on those new databases that Santa has requested. Edward and his team have set a priority to analyze what they have and the hiring of some additional staff for these divisions. Please look for postings this week in the Peppermint Post.
The Division of WWW/PR has put the final touches on the database editors for the North Pole City Commerce Association Business directory. The publicly viewable page for the directory is linked off of the Commerce's webpage on TAOLF.com and will show the name and address of the business, a logo for the business, and a link to any type of merchandise the business may have for sale through the TAOLF.com merchandise store. The WWW/PR involvement now with this database besides housing and page structure modifications upon request is complete. The day-to-day updates can now be made by representatives of the Commerce Association directly.
The temperatures are going to remain the same this week hovering around -30, but expect some snow flurries begining on Thursday. That dense fog we recently had is going to return again on Monday and Tuesday, but is expected to clear up with sunny skies on Wednesday.
Corby Snow is back in and broadcasting live from his little studio at Santa's Workshop. If you have any requests for Corby, please call them in or stop by. He is back at his regular scheduled programmed hours with the morning show starting the day with the whistle blows and craftsmen's oath at the workshop.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released on February 4, 1938. Walt Disney had plans of producing feature-length animated films in addition to the shorts he customarily made for quite a while before this release. In fact, it was in 1934 that he began work on a version of the classic Grimm's fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It had its premiere in December of 1937, but was not released to the public until February of 1938.
The original trailer for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs stated, “See for yourself what the genius of Walt Disney has created in his first full length feature productionâ€. Walt Disney’s decision to make Snow White, which was the first animated feature to be produced in English and in Technicolor, had its naysayers, including his wife Lillian, who warned him that audiences, especially adults, wouldn’t sit through a feature-length cartoon fantasy about dwarfs, but Disney thought differently and worked on the project anyway.
Disney borrowed most of the $1.5 million that he used to make the film. Snow White premiered in Hollywood on December 21, 1937, earning a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd. When it was released to the public the following February, the film quickly grossed $8 million, a staggering sum during the Great Depression and the most made by any film up to that time.
Charlie Chaplin, who attended the Hollywood premiere, told the Los Angeles Times that the film, “even surpassed our high expectations. In Dwarf Dopey, Disney has created one of the greatest comedians of all time.â€
The movie innovatively used story, color, animation, sound, direction and background, among other elements to make it a success. Disney won an honorary Academy Award for his pioneering achievement, while the music for the film, featuring Snow White’s famous ballad, “Some Day My Prince Will Come†and other songs by Frank Churchill, Larry Morey, Paul J. Smith and Leigh Harline, was also nominated for an Oscar. The studio re-released Snow White for the first time in 1944, during World War II; thereafter, it was released repeatedly every decade or so, a pattern that became a tradition for Disney’s animated films. For its 50th anniversary in 1987, Snow White was restored, but cropped into a wide-screen format, a choice some critics were very disappointed in. Disney released a more complete digital restoration of the film in 1993. In June 2008, more than 60 years after its U.S. release, the American Film Institute even chose Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as the No. 1 animated film of all time in its listing of “America’s 10 Greatest Films in 10 Classic Genres.â€
Applications and information into the North Pole City Commerce association are not coming in as they have expected. They are looking for some volunteers to go around to all of the businesses throughout the city to collect information for their new directory database. If you are interested in helping out, please contact the North Pole City Commerce Association offices for more details.
It is not surprising that the city council has answered the letter sent by Santa and Edward Hinklemyer last week refusing to take a census of the elves living within their villages. "The elves will not provide any details as they do not want to be recognized for holidays etcetera," said Wilfred Livingstone elder of the Livingstone village. "You know all too well they they do not care for themselves as much as they care for others. Trying to get them to understand what you are trying to accomplish may cause more harm than good. Please find another way to collect names of those who live in the villages."
Starting this week on Tuesday (even though it is only January 31 and not February yet) the annual Snowball Games will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The North Pole Snowball Games are a friendly competition between the elf clans of North Pole City. They are generally, fairly simple tasks that can be completed within 5 minutes and somehow relate to snowballs (real or substitute). They encourage the elves to have fun together in their spare time in a fun and competitive manner.
This week, teams will be competing in Snow Shoveling Race, Snowball Toss, and Snowball Bounce. Please see the NPC Sports Webpage on the TAOLF.com website for the games rule booklet, schedule, and event locations.
We encourage everyone to come out and watch the snowball games each week if you are in NPC. If you are in the lower 48 or elsewhere in the world, we encourage you to host your own snowball games tournaments with your friends.

WELF-NPC would like to wish a very happy 425th birthday to Chadwick "Tinsel" Livingstone. Chadwick has just started his career over at the syrup factory about 10 years ago and he simply could not be happier. He spends his days tramping around the forests collecting sap that is taken back to the factory each night. He is proud that he achieved a 200 gallon day this past season and hopes to hit that goal again next year. Wish wish you luck and many more happy years.
